The Forest Row Camerata is
a group of professional musicians who, as this working name suggests,
are drawn from the local community, though some come from further afield.
They aim to serve this community by giving six concerts a year, these
consisting primarily of chamber works and works for string ensemble
but also for wider combinations of instruments. The programming will
endeavour to bring to audiences music of differing styles and periods:
some will include new work, but many favourites will also figure.
Your support.
By supporting this annual series
of live concerts, members of the local community will be playing a vital
part in the development both of a local performance culture and of a
support network for outstanding local musicians.
Workshops.
The group are also offering
workshops for young string-players from the locality, who are of grade
4 standard and upwards. These workshops will culminate in performances
in the venues used for and prior to the Camerata concerts. Training
in playing chamber music is generally regarded as the weakest link in
music colleges; for this reason, these workshops will provide an opportunity
for students to develop this vital musical skill at an early point in
their musical lives.
Costs.
Not only does the revenue from
ticket sales account for only a small portion of the total cost of putting
on a concert, but we are also committed to keeping the cost of these
tickets at a reasonable level, so that the concerts can be affordable
for all. Therefore, the perfect way to give support to this venture
that seeks to bring excellence into local cultural life is to do so
in the form of a covenant.
