Winning wines from South East Vineyards Print E-mail

BBC Radio 4, The Food Programme, interviewed  Chris  Foss, Head of Wine at Plumpton College and Harriet  Wright, Lecturer in Wine Business. 
The interview will be transmitted on Sunday 27 July and Monday  28 July 2008 : Sunday 12:30-13:00, Monday 16:00-16:30 .

Plumpton Estate wines were recognised as winners at a recent South East Vineyards’ Association (SEVA) 'Wine of the Year' Dinner.  The winning team at Plumpton College received the awards from a distinguished judging panel, including two Masters of Wine and the Champagne buyer for Marks and Spencer.

 A Gold Medal was presented for The Dean 2005, a sparkling white wine. Other medals included ‘Highly Commended’ for Cloudy Ridge Dry White 2007, and a Silver medal for The Dean Blush Sparkling 'pink' 2005. Bronze medals were  awarded for Sutherland's Block Pinot Noir 2007, Apprentice Red 2007 and Cloudy Ridge Rose 2007.

At the recent national competition, (United Kingdom Vineyards Association), the two College sparkling wines won prestigious Silver and Bronze awards.   These were presented at a ceremony at the House of Lords on 22 July 2008.

All the wines are made by the students attending Plumpton College Foundation Degree and BSc courses in wine production.  The College has a new winery and teaching facility which is dedicated to tuition in Wine Production and Wine Business.  This unique facility in the UK provides a full range of services relating to wine professionals in the wine trade and wine production.  The purpose built features include a commercial and research winery, two laboratories, a lecture theatre, a wine evaluation room and the Vintners’ room, a dedicated meetings and special events arena. 

As well as wine production and wine business courses, the dynamic wine team now offer a bespoke consultancy and research and a wine analysis service.
