APPEALS, MESSAGES AND
NEWS

between the evening of Saturday 14 June and the morning of Monday16 June,
someone damaged a Land Rover which was parked in Parrock Lane, Upper
Hartfield. Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is

Messages
Bank scams
A
number of Community Contact members have received emails claiming to be from
banks, namely Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC and Nat West. These
emails state that if the recipient doesn’t reactivate or reply to the
message their account will be suspended unless they respond. This is nonsense,
banks and building societies NEVER ask for account information and generally
will not send emails to account holders. In general the only time you will
receive an email from your bank/building society will be about viewing an on
line statement and all of the emails state that you can not reply. There fore
if you receive an email of this sort asking for account details delete it.
Quite often the recipient doesn’t even have an account.
American holiday scam
A
member of the Community Contact has emailed in to say that they received a
phone call from a company stating that they had won an all inclusive holiday to
Florida, (the carrot). The call appeared genuine but the caller
was pressuring the recipient to ‘confirm’ their credit card details
before they could continue. The recipient wisely refused, the caller claimed
they would lose their job (emotional blackmail, don’t fall for it) if
they were to give out the details for the recipient to confirm. The recipient
held fast and the caller terminated the call. NEVER give out your details to
anyone who simply rings you offering you something tempting, even if there is a
big carrot on the end of the stick, lets stay with this metaphor –
you’ll never receive the carrot but instead get hit with the stick.
Don’t do it.
Pin reversal at cash points
I
have been informed about this on a number of occasions. Essentially there are
emails floating around, getting into people’s inboxes claiming that if
you were to enter your pin number into a cash point in reverse the Police will
be called automatically to aid you if you were ever to be held up by a robber
who was demanding money from you at the cash point. Although a great idea, that
is all it is, an idea. Pin reversal at the present time does not work. Do not pass this message on,
it’s misinformation.
