Neighbourhood Watch Press Release
North
Wealden police are currently looking for people to become
Neighbourhood Watch Area Co-Coordinators in the Uckfield and Crowborough areas.
The
job will involve liaising with street co-ordinators, and assisting with the
smooth flow of information to and from Wealden Police and the Public.
North
Wealden Sergeant Dave Price said, “We are looking to raise the profile of
Neighbourhood Watch within the North Wealden area. Neighbourhood
Watch is an excellent scheme, with a well proven track record, and I am hoping
to build on this. At present I am short of a number of area co-ordinators for a
number of areas within Uckfield and Crowborough towns, and would welcome
volunteers for the role. It will not be a huge task. Initially the co-ordinators
will be the conduit between Wealden Police and the street co-ordinators.”
“If
anyone is interested in becoming involved in this exciting new era for
Neighbourhood Watch, I would very much like to hear from them. Alternatively,
if they would like more information, I am happy to speak to them about it. I am
available on 0845 6070999, ext 33226, or alternatively, my email address is

Vehicle Crime – Wealden
There
has been a recent spate of catalytic converters being stolen from vans in
the Wealden Area.
Police
are asking van owners to consider where they are parking their vehicles
overnight.
The
advice is that they should be parked in a well illumined area, which is visible
to the public. Fleet vehicles where possible should be parked in a secure
compound, which has CCTV targeting the vehicles and good lighting.
Messages
Advice from Sussex Police in the warmer weather
To
assist in reducing Burglaries within Wealden District please can people
consider the following advice .
At
this time of year people often leave doors or windows open because of the heat.
Even if you are working in the back garden this provides an opportunity for a
burglar to enter and steal from your home. Don’t give them the chance!
Trust
your instincts, if you think something is suspicious let us know,
encourage your neighbours to do the same. Immediate reports of suspicious
incidents has resulted in arrests. Members of the public have told us
about the unfamiliar vehicle cruising a road, the aggressive door-step trader
or a stranger approaching the rear of a neighbour’s
property. Many of these incidents have brought results.
Don’t forget that a vehicle number will give us a head start in locating
persons of interest to us. Dial 999 in an emergency, the non emergency
number is 0845 60 70 999.
Looks
count so make your home appear occupied at all times. An unoccupied home
is more likely to be targeted by the burglar. A thoughtful neighbour removing a
parcel from the step or letters from the hall will help a home appear
occupied.
Reaching
the parts of your house that cannot be viewed by neighbours leaves a weak
spot. Tall, lockable gates and prickly plants will deter the intruder
reaching the rear and sides of the property.
Use
what you have got to secure your home. Secure the windows paying
particular attention to those on the ground floor and above flat roof
areas. Use those locks and bolts and make sure the keys are out of
sight.
You
may need to add to your security. If you would like further information
please call our Crime Prevention Unit on 0845 60 70 999,
Lights
and Locks before you Leave.
