  • NigelS : Thanks to the "Arabian Nights" team. I always reckon that our village panto is funnier and more closely in the tradition of panto than many professional productions!
  • webmaster : "Does anyone there remember the old Crocodile pub? It was run in the 60's by my friends Helen and Wally Hyatt. Any info gratefully received especially photos. Thanks". Posted on behalf of Don Prescott, «email»

Heart of the Community awards Print E-mail

Heart of the Community

You may remember that last year Forest Row Film Society received £1000 from the East Grinstead Courier/Axa PPP  awards. As you know, that money is going towards our new digital equipment which should be in place for the beginning of the next season.

This year two other Forest Row groups have applied for the Heart of the Community awards, and I encourage you to vote for them: the Village Hall; and Forest Row Young People's Theatre.

Voting forms are available in this week's Courier, as well as the next two weeks. All votes have to be submitted by 23rd May. As last year, you can vote as many times as you like, but need to use the voting form in the paper. Please pass this email on to any others in the Courier region who may be able to support these two important causes in our community.

L13: Forest Row Village Hall

S23: Forest Row Young People's Theatre

L13: Forest Row Village Hall

Originally built in 1892, Forest Row Village Hall is an independent charity managed by trustees and is not in receipt of any external funding.

The hall is a major focus of village life with many bookings throughout the day from yoga and badminton to film, music and drama.

As part of its ten-year refurbishment programme we will: renovate the floor; replace more of the old uncomfortable chairs; improve the curtains; and renovate the dressing rooms in the Freshfield Hall. The Forest Players, Ashdown Pantomimers, Forest Row Festival and the Teddington Children's Theatre regularly use the hall and need mirrors, sinks and make-up lights. Other theatrical groups and classes book the hall for practices and performances.

Fundraising events to date have included quiz nights, dinners, and sales. We have  received donations from the community, and started generating funds via easyfundraising. Our regular hall users have contributed to our project.

S23: Forest Row Young People's Theatre

Forest Row Young People's Theatre is a new venture for the teenagers of the village to engage their talents in meaningful artistic activities that develop positive and sustaining relationships within the community.

An eight week pilot project, funded by donations from local businesses and individuals, as well as the gift of free use of the Youth Club from the management committee, has enabled a very successful start.

The young people's theatre will perform original work devised within the sessions through the direction and support of the creative director, Simon Floyd. The performances will be about issues relevant to the group and their views of the world.

A range of activities from costume to lighting to writing to set designing to music composition, will be learnt and created by this theatre group that is surely breaking the mould. It is innovative and fun and most exciting of all, popular!
