Annual Village Spring Clean/Environmental Childrens Festival

Annual Village Spring Clean

Meet at the Community Centre 10:00am

(10:00am meet as opposed to 9:00am advertised on printed flyer)

For the last three years members of the public have supported the Parish Council in their Annual Spring Clean to smarten the village up after the ravages of the winter and to supplement the work of others involved in the upkeep of the village.

It is held in March when litter is most visible just before the grass starts growing. Individuals, groups and families take on litter collecting, cutting back vegetation, leaf sweeping and general tidying up. Wealden District Council is very supportive of our efforts in providing manpower and a road sweeping vehicle as well as most of the equipment. Together we have made a big difference and on every Spring Clean day there are new faces as well as stalwarts who come every year.

Come and help keep the village beautiful!

Organised by Forest Row Parish Council

Featuring the World Future Council’s Kidscall Programme to let world leaders know
what kind of world children want us to create for them

Activities are for children of all ages:

  • Rev. Nick Lamb opens the festival with The Forest Row Church of England School Choir conducted by Head Teacher Ian Allison
  • Through the World Future Council’s Kidscall, children express their hopes and dreams
for the earth - to be delivered directly to world leaders at the Kyoto summit in June
  • Play a Recycle Rubbish game
  • Take part in Friends of the Earth’s melting ice bear competition
  • Create a village banner for Forest Row
  • Play with solar powered toy cars
  • Decorate ‘plastic and cloth bag banks’ for our shops
  • Style and create “new” clothes from old (bring along any you don’t want any more)
  • Try your chance to win some great activity-based raffle prizes, given out
by Vania Phitidis, Wealden District Councillor
  • Enjoy tales, face painting, drawing, music and much more

For adults there is a bookshop style café for you to browse, and talk with others about shifting to a lower carbon, higher quality lifestyle!

The café opens from 1:00pm to follow on from the Parish Council’s 5th Annual Village Spring Clean, in partnership with Wealden District Council. Starting at 9am at the Community Centre.

The festival is brought by Transition Forest Row, a group of local people creating dialogue within the community over ways to reduce our own carbon emissions, our dependence on fossil fuels, and how to improve our overall way of life.
