In National Storytelling Week 2007 we had our first Ashdown Forest Storytelling Festival.  We took storytelling into the shops, pubs, cafes and village halls of our community.  In Forest Row we had after school storytelling in the community centre, at the back of Seasons the organic food shop, at Java and Jazz and at Bramble Corner Toy Shop.  In East Grinstead, tales were told at the museum, the library and the Jewellery Workshop.  We had storytelling in the evenings with tales about the green man: Iron John and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and the greatest love story of all time: Psyche and Eros.  The Village Hall was packed out for a performance of the inspiring poetry and tales of Rumi, the 13th century Sufi poet.  And who could forget the evening we heard ‘The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner’ at the Ship Inn public house in East Grinstead?  Perhaps the most heart warming and memorable feature of the festival was the sense of community where young and old settled down to listen together to enchanting tales told in live performances by our very own local storytellers.

Well, in National Storytelling Week 2008 from Saturday 26 January to Saturday 2nd February the AshdownForest storytellers will be out in force again, delighting you all with stories in the shops and pubs and cafes, Village Hall and Community Centre.  This time we hope to have storytelling in our local schools too.  As for last year, there will publicity, posters, programmes and details in the local press.  So make a note of the dates in your diaries and keep a look out for our publicity.  We hope you will join us.  For further information telephone 01342 826590 or email Annette at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
