APPEALS, MESSAGES AND NEWS
District Commander Honnor’s monthly update
As we move into the latter part of
autumn and the clocks go back, we generally see a slight reduction in
the general crime trends, a theme I will return to later. But this
unfortunately is not so the case, with regard to road traffic
collisions. This is the time of year where we historically see a rise
in the figures of people killed or seriously injured, with November
being the peak month, and thereby the most dangerous month in the year.
It is interesting to note, again looking at the past two years of data,
that from December the peak begins to reduce steeply, with a reduction
in causalities month on month. Statistics can be used to tell us many
things, some people choose to accept other are dismissed, but these
grim conclusions are definitely worthy of note. Anyone using the roads,
should take extra special care and ensure they have safety in mind.
With our colleagues in the Roads Police Dept and the Safer Wealden
Partnership, we will continue to focus on road safety and casualty
reduction….

Good News
East Sussex Division Reducing Crime in your Area
Crime across East Sussex has reduced
across all crime types, and is continuing on the downward trend. Not
only are there less crimes, more offenders are also being brought to
justice. For example across the county there has been 30% less
burglaries in this performance year to date. These significant
reductions mean 320 less victims have had to suffer the trauma of
finding their property stolen and their private space violated. This
success has been achieved by effective partnership working, and
embedded police tactics.
There are many areas of really effective collaborative work, such as
targeted activity at the most prolific offenders. Every district in
East Sussex holds a prolific and priority offender intelligence group,
where the most significant criminals are identified and targeted by
partnership groups….

Theft of tools from vans across East Sussex, from Sussex Police
Sussex Police are urging van owners to
be extra vigilant by not leaving expensive tools in their vehicles over
night and to ensure their tools are security marked in a bid to deter
thieves.
This follows a spate of recent incidents across East Sussex where
thieves have stolen a whole range of power tools by breaking into
vehicles. These thefts are occurring predominately overnight and have
taken place in a variety of areas covering all five districts
(Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Rother and Wealden).
Police are currently investigating this series of tool thefts, and are
using a variety of tactics including specially equipped bait vehicles
to target criminals and catch them red handed.
Police are advising workmen to lock their vans and take their tools
with them. In addition they should display a notice saying that all
tools have been removed. If it is not practical to remove all items,
fit your van with supplementary locks to the access doors. Engrave all
your tools with a unique identifiable number, for example your post
code and try to park in a well lit spot.
Superintendent Grenville Wilson, Neighbourhood Policing, East Sussex
Division, said: “These thefts are bringing misery to many tradesman and
we would ask van owners to help themselves by stepping up their vehicle
security. Also if anyone knows of anybody trading in stolen tools they
should contact us or Crimestoppers anonymously.”
If anyone has any information on the recent series of power tool thefts
across East Sussex, please contact police on 0845 60 70 999 or
Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

lottery is a letter being sent through the post stating it is from the
Desk of the Vice president . International Promotion/Price Award . It
bares the address Plaza Juan Carlos C-14541. It states it is for the
Spanish lottery .
Police are advising that you think twice
before parting with you money . If you have not brought a ticket , then
you will not have won anything. Put it in the bin where it belongs!

to members of the community each year. Professional fire crews and
Advisor Teams are awaiting your call to help ensure your safety, so
don't be shy in coming forward or recommending a friend or neighbour to
do so. The Service attends hundreds of calls each year to fires in
private homes and it would much rather spend it's time preventing fires
than dealing with the aftermath. Not many would disagree with that
sentiment, so let's prevent them together, it's surely better to call
the Service before a fire starts! Having smoke alarms, knowing what
action to take to prevent fire and how to respond to a fire should one
occur are the most effective means of keeping you safe.

Personal Safety
This advice is for those who wish to
enjoy the night time economy. Our pubs and clubs are safe, but
generally busy places, especially on the weekends. When you are out and
about in pubs and clubs remember to keep your bags, wallets and mobile
phones safe. It is all too easy to place these items on the bar, on a
table or on the floor. Unfortunately, especially when alcohol is
involved it can induce complacency. Always take your bags, wallets and
phones with you when you go to the bar or to the toilet. Gentleman be
careful of keeping your wallet in your back trouser/jean pocket,
perhaps put it in a coat’s zip up pocket or in the front pocket of
jeans/trouser (though the cut of your trouser may suffer, it’s better
than your finances!) Asking friends to look after your belongings is
not best practice, as people never look after other peoples possessions
as well as they would their own.
Essentially keep your property with you
as a theft could lead to a different sort of headache the following day
when cancelling cards, changing locks and losing the contact numbers on
your mobile. It is far more of an inconvenience to lose these items
than to take them with you and keep them on your person.
- Don’t leave handbags, mobiles, wallets or keys unattended
- Don’t carry large amounts of cash
- Carry your purse/wallet separate from your bag
