Drop In For Some Advice At The Cybercafé – Sussex Police
A virtual café is being launched to help protect primary school pupils from the danger of predatory adults when they're online.
Worried children will be able to use the
cybercafé to seek advice and contact real police officers. The Child
Exploitation and Online Protection Centre is behind the initiative,
which is part of the ThinkUKnow website.
The organisation believes young children are increasingly at risk
because their technical proficiency blinds them to the dangers of the
internet.
For full information about the Cybercafé see the below links.

Seasonal Celebrations, East Sussex Division
Sussex Police are urging people to act responsibly when having fun this Halloween and Bonfire Night.
Historically this is a time of year when police receive an increase in
calls, especially from vulnerable persons as a result of 'trick or
treat' callers or fireworks being thrown / discharged.
A ‘No Trick or Treat’ flyer’ is available to download from the Sussex Police website – http://www.sussex.police.uk/operations/halloween.asp
for the more vulnerable members of the community such as the elderly
who may find unwanted callers distressing . Police are asking young
people to respect the wishes of anyone displaying this flyer by not
calling at their home.
Shopkeepers are asked to bear in mind the time of year when selling
eggs to young people, especially on Halloween - 31 October - itself and
to be extra vigilant when selling fireworks.
A number of measures have been introduced to tackle the anti-social and
dangerous use of fireworks, breaking the regulations could result in a
fine of up to £5000 (and/or a prison sentence). For example the
regulations (subject to some exceptions stated in the Regulations) make
it an offence to:
- sell fireworks to persons under the age of 18 years or;
-
supply to the general public the more powerful types of fireworks specified in the Regulations, or;
-
possess fireworks in a public place if under the age of 18;
-
to throw, cast or throw onto any highway, street, thoroughfare or public place, a firework.
-
possess a category 4 firework if other than a fireworks professional;
-
set fireworks off after 11 o clock at night (With the exceptions of 5th November, the first day of the Chinese New Year, Diwali and New Years Eve)
Superintendent Grenville Wilson, Neighbourhood Policing, East Sussex
Division said: “Our advice to those wanting to celebrate Halloween is
to organise a party with friends and neighbours and one of safest ways
to enjoy the bonfire celebrations is to attend an organised event. At
this time of year, I ask parents to ensure they are aware of where they
children are, and what they are doing and to be responsible for their
children."
"Officers across East Sussex Division will be targeting any anti
-social behaviour around this seasonal time and utilising powers to
issue fixed penalty notices for inappropriate fireworks offences.
Throwing eggs/flour can be classed as Criminal Damage, or even assault
for which you can be arrested. We want people to have fun, but in a
safe and friendly way."
If you do decide to go Trick or Treating you should stay as safe as possible by following the ‘Haunters Code.’
-
Always go trick or treating with an adult.
-
Only go to houses where you or your friends know the residents.
-
Don’t knock on doors where there is a ‘No Trick or Treat’ sign.
-
Stay in areas that are well lit with street lights – take a torch with you just in case.
-
Stay with your friends – don’t split in to smaller groups unless an adult goes with you.
-
Don’t talk to strangers on the street.
-
Don’t enter any house – stay on the doorstep.
-
Be careful not to frighten vulnerable people, especially the elderly.
-
Be visible.
-
Look carefully before crossing the road, even if you’re part of a group.
-
Don’t vandalise anything or throw things like eggs and flour. This
can cause a great deal of damage and misery. What’s more it can be
classed as criminal damage, or even assault, and a night of ‘fun’ could
end up with you in trouble with the police.
Sussex Police hope that you enjoy both Halloween and November 5th safely.
