Cuckoo Trail Rapist Sentenced
Jack Foster, 19 years, of Lottbridge
Drove, Eastbourne was sentenced at Hove Crown Court Tuesday 9 October
for the rape of a young woman, aged 16, on the Cuckoo Trail, Polegate,
in July 2006.
He was given a public protection sentence with a tariff of four years,
which means he must serve four years before he can apply for parole. He
will not be eligible for parole as long as he is deemed as a high risk.
Upon his eventual release he will be on licence for ten years and
remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The judge described him as a 'dangerous sexual predator intent on fulfilling his own lust'.
DI Colin Dowle, said: “The sentencing today reflects the serious and
horrific nature of the sexual offence committed by Jack Foster and the
damage caused to the young victim who has demonstrated great personal
courage throughout this ordeal.”
“Foster is a prolific sex offender who is deceitful and insatiable, a
sexual predator who can no longer target innocent youngsters in our
local community.
“I commend all officers, including those from British Transport Police,
for their work on this case. It is by our continued partnership working
that we are able to do everything possible to manage sex offenders in
Sussex.”
New Signs Raise Awareness of Theft – Safer Wealden Partnership
New information signs are being placed
in Car Parks on the Ashdown Forest in a joint initiative of the Safer
Wealden Partnership.
The signs have been designed by East
Sussex Fire Rescue Service Graphics department and mounted by
May-Gurney in Ringmer on behalf of the Partnership.
The need was identified after problems
involving damage and theft from vehicles in car parks on the Ashdown
Forest. Sussex Police continue to maintain their operations in the
areas of most concern and are supported by the highly visual message
given out by the new signs.
Car Parks of most concern are: Ellisons
Pond, Kingstanding, Gills Lap and Pooh Bridge. The message from the
Safer Wealden Partnership is to ensure your vehicle is parked
considerately, locked and with no valuables on show inside. These
include mobile phones, satellite navigation devices, bags, and cameras
which are especially tempting to thieves.
Insp. Richard Allum said, "Car crime on
the Ashdown Forest has been reduced dramatically over the last two
years as a result of regular partnership patrols by Sussex Police, East
Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and the Forest Rangers. Leaflets
have been handed out offering simple
crime prevention advice and these signs are part of the ongoing work to
increase awareness and make the forest even safer to use."
