One In Five Test Positive
Final figures for the Sussex Drink
Drive Campaign have revealed that one in five drivers who were stopped
tested positive for alcohol or drugs.
Commenting on the results, the Head of the Sussex Road Policing Unit, Superintendent Paul Morrison, said:
"In Sussex, a number of projects have
been undertaken to establish the risk created by those who drink or use
drugs and subsequently drive. We know from these that 24% of all fatal
crashes, and 20% of serious injury crashes, involved someone who had
either driven whilst affected by drink or drugs. Also, many involved in
the fatal incidents had a previous conviction for drink or drug related
driving (6%).
