APPEALS, MESSAGES AND NEWS
Good News
Sharpthorne – Man Arrested Forest Row
At approximately 7pm on Saturday 21st
January 2006 in Grinstead Lane, Sharpthorne a man was seen acting
suspiciously by 2 local business owners. The business owners had been
alerted to a suspicious van near to their business premises and had
gone to check it out. On arrival they heard loud noises coming from the
area of their workshop and then found a man walking out from a driveway
to a house further up the road carrying 2 rucksacks.
When the man approached him, he first claimed he was deer stalking, then said he was walking the paths.
The 2 men detained the man until police
arrived. When searched by police he was found to be carrying 2
rucksacks containing tools like screwdrivers, spanners, rubber mallet,
torch, rubber gloves and heavy duty gloves. He also had a metal pole
shaped like a crowbar, a Stanley knife and a pole with a curved blade
at the top.
Police arrested Mr Louis Adcock, 36 years from Redhill, Surrey for Going Equipped and he was later interviewed and charged.
In Court Mr Adcock claimed he was in
fact Deer watching which is a hobby of his and he had the tools on him
as he felt they were not safe in his van. Most of the tools were for
fixing his van as he had mechanical problems earlier in the day.
Mr Adcock was in court 20-21st August and is due back for sentencing on the 18th September.
Police Officer in charge of the
incident, PC Phil Tribe quotes: “ I would like to thank the members of
public who were vigilant enough to notice this suspicious behaviour as
it was their assistance that helped police to a successful result.
Speed Device 24/8/07
This week saw the launch of North
Wealden police officers conducting speed checks on the area. For the
first time local officers are now able to carry out speed checks using
a brand new Speed Device purchased by the Safer Wealden Partnership.
Until now only the Roads Policing Unit based in Polegate were trained
and had the equipment to carry out speed enforcement but now two local
officers have been trained. The first checks were carried out on
Thursday 23rd August in Uckfield town and Maresfield village.
Insp Richard Allum said "I am really
pleased that we now have this capability locally so that we can respond
to peoples concerns. Road Safety is a priority for us and whilst we
have been involved in education locally, being able to carry out
enforcement will help us promote the message that speed can kill.”
Whilst no fixed penalty tickets were
issued on the first day Insp Allum felt this was positive stating, “Not
everyone speeds but we will work with the community to identify
specific locations and times of the day to target those who do. This
work is aimed at saving lives and cutting accidents on our roads.”
