Road Policing Unit – A Busy Weekend
Over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 7th / 8th July Sussex Police Road Policing Unit were involved in several Operations around East Sussex. On Saturday Operation Vortex and Operation Bermuda ran in Hastings. Road Policing Officers assisted local Neighbourhood Policing Teams looking at car crime and anti-social driving matters. Two arrests were made for driving whilst disqualified and driving whilst impaired through drink/drugs. 4 uninsured vehicles were seized. 13 motorists received fixed penalties for a variety of offences, and there were a further 34 interventions in one form or another.
On Sunday the focus moved to Operation Ride, a weekly attempt to disrupt the anti-social high speed riding of motor cycles causing so much frustration to communities. A number of tickets were issued for number plate offences, but no motorcyclists were caught exceeding speed limits. However, 3 car drivers were arrested for driving with excess alcohol.
In the evening the attention again turned to Operation Vortex/Bermuda. 4 arrests were made for drink/drive offences, theft and driving whilst disqualified. 7 fixed penalty tickets were issued and 3 more uninsured vehicles were seized. A further 27 interventions with members of the motoring public were reported.
In addition, in the first week of July, 9 people were issued with tickets for using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving. This was in support of a European-wide enforcement campaign aimed at dealing with this dangerous practice.

FOREST ROW Approx. 5:30am Sat. 07/07/07 Theft Ashdown Road Believed that boys were responsible for taking inflammable fly repellent from a back garden. All these incidents have similarities, was it the same boys who were responsible for all three, they appear to be antics carried out possibly after a night out and this was their route home. Any ideas as to who these ‘boys’ are? They need to be made aware that their behaviour is inappropriate and unacceptable. 1021 of 07/07/07
