Well, there are those occasions when I find myself in a supermarket. This one was Waitrose in EG. My daughter's birthday cake needed loads of (organic of course) strawberries. But, sadly, these do come in plastic trays, which are not being collected for recycling in FR at present. So, what to do? Firstly, while I was there, I also got some nectarines, and they too come in plastic trays. When I paid, I unpacked the nectarines, and very sweetly handed them back to the check-out lady, who was very gracious, and took them. That gave me the courage to save the strawberry punnets, and take them back on my next errand run in EG. Again, they were very gracious. I hope lots and lots of people do the same! I'm sure we'd see an end to plastic packaging much sooner if we all did it! Imagine! (Wonder how gracious they would be if 100 people a day brought back non-recyclable packaging?)

Lots of people talk about it so well done you for giving it a go. I think Tulley's farm is currently doing pick your own strawberries....maybe one day Tablehurst might have that also and then you wouldn't even have to go to East Grinstead (as long as your cake requirements hit the right season...!;-)

Well rest assured my recipes match the season! Yes, Tulley's is a bit too far for my liking and not organic... at least I can get to EG on my bike... so yes, Tablehurst, bring it on! PYO summer fruit! (Great idea Rowena!)
