On Monday 26th March, Cllr. Lock agreed to extend funding for the Hartfield Road school crossing patrol for a further 6 months. During this period, County transport officers will undertake further traffic surveys to review the terms for continuing with the patrol.
Ian Allison, Headteacher at Forest Row School and Ken Marke, Chair of Governors, attended the meeting at County Hall in order to support the petition to continue with funding. Cllr. Whetstone who instigated the petition, was also present and he and Ian Allison were able to address Cllr. Lock. Several pertinent points were put forward including the liklihood of parents using their cars as this would be safer than letting their children cross without a patrol present. A strong point was also made about the ineffectiveness of the Hartfield Road safety measures. Prior to the meeting, a large number of parents of children at FR School sent letters directly to Cllr. Lock appealing for a positive decision.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported this campaign for their help. In 6 months time, we may well need to call on their goodwill again. Paul Clevett, the SCP, is also very grateful to eveyone as well. Watch this space for updates.
