The homes of Forest Row parish produce nearly 4,500 tonnes of rubbish each year. That’s nearly a tonne per person! In 2003/4 we recycled only 19% of this rubbish. In 2005/6 this increased to 29%. This achievement is largely due to the improved facilities at the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Station Road (commonly known as 'the tip'). However it is possible to recycle a lot more but to do it relies on the Council making it easier and on more of us making an effort.
A few years ago the people mobilised and signed a petition calling for kerbside recycling to be brought to our village. This was reinforced in our public consultation process when the Parish Plan was prepared. Our Parish Clerk took the message to Wealden District Council. Now the Council has heeded our call. They will be rolling out a brand new recycling system to the whole of our Parish. Yes this will involve change. There may also be some inconvenience. But do we really want to be sending so much rubbish to landfill – which is a major contributor to global warming? So let’s rise to the challenge – if you would like to know more about the proposals come to the public exhibitions. If you want to do more contact Alan Potter at

New recycling scheme coming soon to Forest Row, Danehill and Chelwood Gate The start date for the new kerbside recycling scheme is fast approaching. The first collections are due to start in mid May and individual households will soon be receiving information through the post explaining what the new scheme involves.
There will be kerbside collections of waste paper, plastic bottles, cardboard and garden waste for composting initially, with plans to add recycling collections for food and drinks cans, aerosols and aluminium foil in the coming months. To make it easier to home compost there’s also a compost bin offer. Households can claim a free of charge compost converter or a heavily subsidised food waste digester. The food waste digester takes cooked food as well. Both types of home compost bin provide a nutritious compost for garden use. The new recycling containers and the home compost bins are due to be delivered to individual households at the start of May, shortly before the scheme starts.
To find out more about the scheme why not come along to one of the following public meetings to be held : Weds 11th April 2.00pm Forest Row Community Centre Sat 14th April 10.00am Forest Row Community Centre Thurs 19th April 7.00pm Forest Row Community Centre It’s your chance to find out more and ask questions about the scheme to the Wealden staff on hand.
